Highway Lighting/Street Lighting

Highway Lighting or street Lighting is based on The Indian Roads Congress (IRC). IRC is the Apex Body of Highway Engineers in the country. The IRC was set up in December, 1934 on the recommendations of the Indian Road Development Committee best known as Jayakar Committee set up by the Govt. Of India with the objective of Road Development in India. Highway lighting consists of providing illumination through lights in the vicinity of a highway/road/street.

Highway lightning needs

  • Highway lighting is particularly required at road intersections, railway level crossing, bridges and other cross-drainage works, and near stretches of road-repair and temporary diversions, where restriction to free flow of traffic exists. This increases the road safety and adds to the visual appeal near such locations.

  • Although the vehicle headlights may be adequate for normal night driving, highway lighting is an additional and valuable facility for the road-users.
  • Further, provision of proper lighting in the vicinity of and approaches to different roadside amenities like petrol pumps, service area, rest areas, Underpasses, Toll plaza, Bus bay and bus shelter, truck parking area and all junction area makes it easy for fast traffic to identify such amenities sufficiently in advance besides enhancing the aesthetics.

  • Accidents are known to occur more during nights than during the day; this is attributed to poor visibility of potential hazards at night time and lack of proper lighting for the road or highway.

Street Lighting

  • Measures
  • Lux Calculation Through DiaLux Software
  • Operating hours
  • Power
  • Light source
  • Fixture
  • Control system
  • Lux Testing Through Lux Meter

Toll Plaza Lighting

The toll plaza shall have lighting system to provide visibility to drivers for the use of facility specially to access the correct service lane and also to the toll collector. Indian Standard ‘Code of Practice for Lighting of Public Thorough fare IS: 1944 shall be followed. This would be done by interior and exterior lighting as indicated below. Power supply shall be from public power supply system, but stand by generating set of the capacity to supply the required power shall be provided at toll plaza.

  • Interior Lighting: The toll booths and facility building office shall be illuminated adequately. Indoor lighting shall be with fluorescent lamps. Lighting should be provided in such a manner that glare is avoided or minimized. The level of illumination shall be 200 to 300 Lux as per IS:3646 Part II.

  • Exterior Lighting: Lighting of the Toll Plaza is important for enhancing night visibility. The lighting system shall consist of the following major components.

  • High Mast lighting

  • Canopy lighting of complex

  • Lighting on both side approaches to the Toll Plaza

Tunnel Lighting

As our road networks become more crowded, the use of tunnels and underpasses is expanding, both to improve traffic flow, and to protect local environments from increased traffic exposure. Within tunnels, where maintenance access can be limited, and where corrosive atmospheric conditions are common, reliable performance of the lighting system is critical, as is the need for the absolute minimum of operational maintenance requirements.

The aims of tunnel lighting are:

  • Firstly, to allow traffic to enter, pass through and exit the enclosed section safely

  • Secondly, to do so without impeding the through-flow of traffic. These aims are achieved by the adequate illumination of the tunnel interior, which allows drivers to quickly adjust to the light within, identify possible obstacles, and negotiate their passage without reducing speed. These requirements apply during the day when the contrast between outside and inside is significant and at night when it is less but reversed.

Solar Blinker

Solar blinker is useful for indication, array design, as guideline indications also. It helps to stops much accidental activity and also right for pathway and also for bump indications. This Solar Road Safety Warning Blinker uses solar energy to operate the signal. So there is no need for an Electricity supply. The whole assembly includes Solar Panel, Frame for Solar Panel, Traffic Signal Blinker, Wire Harness, Charge Controller, Battery, Battery Box, Signal Pole, etc.

Replacement of Traditional Lighting with Led

Choosing the eco-friendly LED Light solutions of Intelliroute India Service, in fact, there are many advantages including the optimization of consumption, the reduction of maintenance costs and the absence of high temperatures, generated instead by traditional commercial lights lamps. The LED Light solutions can stimulate photosynthesis perfectly, extend the daylight period, make indoor growing possible and plan climate conditions according to the needs of different-different place. The use of special LEDs that emit light at dedicated frequencies, in fact, with spectral levels capable of increasing production, safe driving, leads to the optimization of available energy and environmental resource.
